昔はお正月といえば、映画が流行りましたね。
ビデオデッキが流行る前の話。お年玉をもらって、綺麗な洋服を着て、家族で街にくりだして。
買い物と食事を楽しみながら、映画館でくつろいだ。
あっしもそんな風習を懐かしく思い、今年のお正月は久しぶりに映画館に言って参りやした。
ちょうど、興味をそそる映画が公開されていましたのでね。
その名も『マラドーナ』、監督はボスニア人のエミール・クストリッツァ（55歳）。
勝手にサブタイトルを付けさせてもらうと「-真に愛されるフットボリスタについて-」なんてのは、どうかな。
マラドーナはブラジルサッカーを語る上でも、外せない人物だ。
なにせ、彼が燦然と君臨した80年代半ばから90年代前半まで、ブラジルも苦汁をなめされられたからね。あの時期ほど、アルゼンチンに水を空けられたと感じた時代は無かったかもしれないし、そのおかげでブラジルは次の世代の天才たちに可能性を託すことができた。
しかし、ハチャメチャな映画だったな。最初の映像から、この映画の監督クストリッツァ自らが、どこかのステージに立ってロックギターを弾こうとしていたり、意図がつかめない...
で、いきなり、あの86年W杯の因縁のイングランド戦、そして、あのスーパーゴール。映画では「世紀のゴール」というタイトルで、最後まで、ひっきりなしに現れる。たしかに、何度観てもすごい。スクリーンで観るとなおすごい。でも、陳腐なサブリミナル手法はやめてくれ。
映画ではマラドーナが革命家という位置付けで、アメリカやイギリスの支配と戦う最後のドンキホーテのような画が作られている。あのチェ・ゲバラやフィデル・カストロにも劣らぬ革命家扱いだ。そんな政治的プロパガンダ臭を"ファブリーズ"させるために、随所にマラドーナの過去のプレー集が散りばめられる。
とくにナポリ時代のゴールが懐かしかった。絶頂期のマラドーナがセリエAという世界中で放映されはじめていたリーグで、ミランやインテルやユベントスといった北部の強豪相手にやりたい放題やっている姿は、いまなお観ても痛快だ。当時、セレソンのFWカレカが彼の相棒を務めていて、二人はサーカスのようなツートップだった。
そしてガツーンと衝撃的なのが、マラドーナがそのナポリの街を2005年に再び訪れたときの映像。マラドーナの滞在するホテルの前に集まった群衆の熱気、雄叫び、賛歌。永遠に愛されるサッカー選手とはなにか。その情熱の映像を目の当たりにして、あっしも感動を抑えきれない。
映画はさらに、貧しかった子供時代と、彼のドラッグ使用の話へと進む。マラドーナが貧しい頃の母のことを話したとき、そして、自分の幼かった娘達との関係を話したとき、こっちはまたしても、涙を抑えきれない。妻の皺だらけの顔。神マラドーナの家族もまた、その名声の大きさに匹敵するほどの大きな悩みを抱えていたのだ。麻薬中毒者のいる家庭の声に出せない苦悩がそこにある（映画の撮影はマラドーナがコカインをまだ使用していた時期から始まっている）。
最後に自ら「コカインをやっていなければ、もっと長くプレーできた。もっと多くを成し遂げられた」と後悔する。あたりまえだ、この野郎。コカインやってプレーするなんざ、狂気の沙汰だ。普通の人間なら、ビールを飲んだだけでもサッカーはできない。
ラストシーンで屈託なく踊るマラドーナ。やりたい放題で、どうしょうもないマラドーナ。でも、ありのままで、美化する必要のないマラドーナ。すべてを経験し、常人の及ばない境地に到達し、生死の境までをも体験した。あ、そうそう、もう少しでアルゼンチン代表をＷ杯予選落ちさせるという経験まで作りかねかった男。
映画の中にマラドーナ教というのが出てくる（「D10S」という表示を掲げて）。でも、マラドーナは神なんかじゃない、人間くさすぎる（こっちだって、せいぜい「王様」どまりなんだぜ）。「人間くさすぎる」...最高の賛辞だと思いません？
神様はマラドーナにありえないほどの境遇を用意した。南米の大都市のみずぼらしい一角、逃れられない貧しさ、フォークランド戦争（映画ではマルビーナス島と呼ばれる）、国家の敗北、破綻した経済、サッカー市場でのヨーロッパ支配のはじまり、イタリアの南北格差、世界を飲み込んだコカイン汚染。そんな時代のうねりのなかで、英雄にのし上がったフットボリスタ。すべての星が奇跡的に彼の頭上に集結した。
マラドーナ監督苦しんでますね。アルゼンチンは前線はいい選手は多いんだけれども、他は人材が枯渇していますね。
”特に中盤にいい守備と攻撃ができる、デコのような選手がいない。たぶん憶測ですが、ヨーロッパ市場の需要に合わせて、アタカンチかボランチの２タイプしか”生産”されなくなったせいかも。”
